Tips for using an Abs Exercise Ball

Many people are confused by the sight of an abs exercise ball. It is just a large rubber ball that lurks around gyms and fitness stores with no one seeming to know how to use them or why. However, abs exercise ball is excellent tools for getting rock hard cores and six pack abs. Abs exercise ball can be used in almost any exercise as a variation to it. They are also, importantly, very easy on your back where the floor may not be. You can get under used muscles working with ease.

The floor is still a good and common place to work out, since not everything can be done on a ball. The ball’s safety should be matched when working on the floor, though. Do this by getting a rubber floor mat. Abs exercise ball absorb a lot of shock and cushion your spine or stomach. For this reason, you can get a much better work out because it is safer and your are able to concentrate more instead of just wondering when you can stop.

For most people who exercise a lot, certain favorites will start to get stale. Your body will become acclimated to the repeated movement and they will become easy. How are you supposed to keep losing weight and getting a toned stomach if that happens? Crunches, an old staple, are one of the first to need variation.

With your lower back against the abs exercise ball, you lean backwards. Keep your feet planted firmly on the floor and your legs extended more outward on a diagonal. You need a good foot hold for this. With your arms behind your head, start doing crunches. You will find that your abs need to be much more in control than when you are on the floor. You cannot get away with just lifting up your neck here.

Balls roll. This is why they are so beneficial for ab work outs. Many people who are stable on the floor just do their exercises quickly to say they did them. The abs exercise ball insists upon you doing it slowly and correctly, otherwise you lose your balance. By making your abs control your movement, they will get a maximum workout. This is the start of building a six pack. It all begins with quality over speed.

Push ups, though not traditionally an ab exercise, can be done with a ball and transformed into a whole body work out. Start by laying on the ball face down to the floor. You will need to lean over and put your hands on the floor ahead of you. Walk forward on your hands, pulling the ball more so your thighs are resting on it instead of your stomach. Keep your legs as straight as you can.

Start doing push ups. The movement up and down will do what push ups normally do: bulk up your arms and back. The part that gets your abs is the laying on the ball. Your abs are in total control of your balance. You will contract them with every movement and it will be a surprisingly thorough work out.

Your legs may even get some residual exercise as energy and tension passes along your body. By keeping your legs straight and not resting on much, you can strengthen them. Work with a trainer to design a good work out incorporating the ball.
