Why You Should Check Out a Pilates Workout Video

Everybody wants great abs, right? These days, it’s all the rage. We used to talk about hourglass figures and biceps and pecs and broad shoulders, and that stuff is great and all, but it’s really all about the abs now. If you want great, rock hard, lean, cut abs, a perfect six pack (and not the kind you drink), a pilates workout video can get you there.

Now, why pilates? Over all the other workout programs out there, what makes pilates special? Simple: Pilates is all about the six pack… Well, more specifically, it’s all about self control, coordination, getting a perfect sync with the body and mind. A major part of obtaining that control is in the midsection, the abs. Take a look at an older martial artist, and you’ll see just how strong they are in the midsection.

You might find yourself wondering… How effective can the system be, when, after all, it’s just a fad, right? Well… Actually it’s not a fad at all. It’s seen a lot of overnight popularity, sure, but the system has actually been around for about a century now (even longer, depending on how you look at it).

You can get started right away with one of the fourteen thousand instructors located around the country, but a pilates workout video is a great alternative if you want to save time and money and do it in the privacy of your own home. There’s something to be said for doing it with the whole class, but there’s something more to be said for doing it alone, on your own time, and for free.

The system was developed by Joseph Pilates, a physician of Greek descent, born in Germany. It was designed, or rather, refined, a way to rehabilitate shell shocked soldiers, to help them develop coordination and personal body control again, by taking decades old techniques and turning them into a cohesive program.

That’s really what it’s all about: Precise movement, physical focus, and the best way to get that is with tight middle body control. The real goal of the system is to get your brain and your body thinking on the same wavelength, but along the way, killer abs are pretty much a guarantee as long as you stick with the program and couple it with good eating habits.

Take some time, before you start, to read up on the system a little more. The pilates workout video will show you all the steps, but it can do you a lot of good to actually know what the system is all about, how to get the most out of it, and what its goals really are. Remember, it’s to train your body and your mind, so consider a walk to the library a nice warm up for both.

It should be noted, however, that not all pilates instructors know what they’re talking about. There’s no real board of review, as with the Martial Arts Council, so not everyone teaching the system is truly qualified. The best way to make sure your pilates workout video is on the level is simply to check out some user reviews. This way you can see what others have to say about the courses shown in the pilates workout video. And of course, what it really comes down to is what sort of results you can expect, and you won’t be able to figure that out without reading a few user reviews of the video in question.
